After completing this course, you must pass the nationally recognized CRCST exam to become a Certified Sterile Processing Technician. Once certification is achieved you then become qualified to work in SPD.
Students will need to study the 9th edition Sterile Processing Technical Manual. Students can purchase the physical copy from myhspa.org.
Yes, we provide guidance and resources to help you meet the 400-hour hands-on training requirement. While students are responsible for securing their hours, we support you with tools/guidance for securing your 400 hours either through employment or externship. Depending on your location will determine whether you can become employed without certification or experience. (Give me a call for clarification)
Hands-on training can typically be completed at hospitals or healthcare facilities with sterile processing departments. That includes surgery centers, and dental offices. You can even complete your hours at veterinarian hospitals! (as long as you are performing decontamination, preparation & packaging, and sterilization procedures)
We recommend starting as early as possible to ensure you have ample time to complete the requirement. It’s a good idea to begin reaching out to facilities while progressing through the course. We're here to support you through that process.
